spring 2017 for half a year
february-june 2018
In 2018, 5 months.
February to June 2018
Spring semester 2018 (current). Total duration 5 months.
The spring semester of 2018
I am currently studying in Lithuania, for 5 months
01.02.-30.06., 5 months
1st of february, 4 months so far
Why did you decide to study at the Lithuanian university?
I wanted to visit Lithuania and the neighbouring countries
courses are in english and I like baltic countries.
Because the country is cheaper than most other countries and the university is in the capital city.
Because the country is not expensive.
I was looking for a new experience.
Because educational system is different here.
Because of its history and importance in the Baltic countries
I wanted to experience Eastern Europe from a different kind of view and go somewhere "exotic" (not the typical countries like Spain, England or France). And the ECTS from VU are accepted in my home university!
I wanted to know what it is like to study in a foreign university and because ive known lithuania for a long while
What characteristics of Lithuanian students and teachers have you noticed?
similar to czech studnets, ambitious, teachers are very kind and friendly
So young teachers, very different from each other (they don't have a common way to organize classes and evaluations). Students are friendly only with lithuanians.
Distant but helpful.
They are not polite and the teachers are not responsible. But lithuanians are funny
The professors often have a direct relationship with the students and know each one personally.
Students are not really friendly and team players but the most percentage of teachers try to be friendly with us and help us to manage our studies.
Students are very competitive, but teacher are very open to dialogue
I had no direct contact with Lithuanian students in class, but from what I heard they are friendly and smart, but rather close-minded and have different work standards (punctuality & effort). From Lithuanian teachers I experienced that they are really trying to involve all the different cultures and backgrounds and are really interested in what is going on in our countries. They were always friendly and welcoming. Sometimes they were a little too friendly and did not take any measures to antisocial behavior like coming too late (some people were regularly late over 30 minutes!). Also there were clear differences between presentations and essays and I guess due to friendliness again, most of them were graded the same, even though there were big differences in quality. I wished that the teachers would have taken more measures to discipline lacking respect and punctuality somehow. And the English language could be a barrier for a lot of teachers, also here were great differences between teachers.
The teachers in the economics & admin faculty are pretty nice and good with students with the exception of maybe a few, the students seem to have a nice welcoming reaction if you wanna be friends with them or ask for help
How much free time do you have/ did you have while studying at the Lithuanian university?
a lot
i have classes 3 days per week
Not really. I had to skip some homeworks sometimes, to do something I want.
4 days in a week
As an Erasmus student I have more free time than usual.
In my department, I had to do many homework, projects, tests during the semester. So, I don't have much leisure time for myself but still I try to find some time and to be a real Erasmus student.
Quite a lot
A lot! I had 4 days of classes with approx. 2h a day.
Alot haha
How Lithuanian students treat Erasmus students?
they don't really care about them
They don't speak to erasmus students
Neither positive, nor negative. Everything is normal.
They are nice.
Most Lithuanian students are a bit distant but overall kind and welcoming to the foreign students.
They are not unfriendly, but they are not so talkative so as to ask them, to talk with them and to be friends with them.
They don't care much about us, usually
I did not really have any direct contact in class (we were only foreigners), but on the University grounds they were rather shy and stuck with their Lithuanian friends. What I noticed was the insecurity that came when I asked them a question in English, even though most of the time their English was fine! A question I asked myself a lot was if they do not want contact with us foreigners or if they are just too shy because of the language barrier.. But certainly not all of them - ESN students were wonderful to us :-)
Hm pretty neutral id say, they wouldnt mind being their friends or anything so
In which university events did you participate?
I don't remember any
orientation week, phisics day, some esn events
Vilnius University.
