Birthday celebration traditions in East Asian countries (China, South Korea and Japan) and Lithuania
What presents do you usually give to others/receive? Tell me more about them. Are they based on some kind of tradition or not in your opinion?
something that other person dream off. In other cases money or alcohol.
Money and alcohol are number one presents in Lithuania. Going to the birthday? Take some alcohol. Going to see a doctor? grab that bottle. Ahh, is there's an anniversary for your friends wedding/relationship? Take that wine from the fridge.
Personally, I like to think of something original and creative and add my work to the present. I concentrate on small things, my main criteria is that the thing would rather not look cool but be useful and would not stand on the shelf for ages. For example, me and my best friend are obsessed with bath bombs and lotion and especially me candles. That is mostly what we give each other, and these things are possible to make more special by doing them ourselves. For my mom, I usually just buy flowers and expensive chocolates she likes. I think most crucial part of every present is a card/letter which should be short but meaningful. I like to write down relatable poems or something I would never say in person.
I usually try to find funny gifts. Like last year I gave my friend a bag of tissues, because she is always using them. Mine presents aren't traditional at all, it's always something different.
I usually give and receive money as well as some little personal gift. If I give my friend money, so they can spend it wisely I also make a letter or a drawing, or a photo college - something that is special for us and personal.
Simple presents like candies and pictures of me and friend. I make pictures to look like from Polaroid. It's very cute and small present but given with love
I often get money because no one know what I want. But when I giving gifts I try to do something original. Like bow full of fruits and chocolate or sometimes books.
Mostly I get money. When I try to buy a present, I always trying to find something, what could be related with other person. When I find it, I prepare little story, why this gift is so special.
I try to give meaningful or functional presents whenever I can, for example, a hand-made Eiffel Tower for a friend who wants to visit Paris, or climbing gear that another friend has been wanting to buy. I don't think it is based on any traditions, but we do try to keep presents as surprise till the last minute.
I usually present something acording the the needs of the person. It is not based on tradition
I don't pay substantial attention on what present I get. But the most memorable one was when I received a bungee jump coupon.
When I give a gift to others, I pay attention on what kind of people they are - materialist or not, also what they like.
