Birthday celebration traditions in East Asian countries (China, South Korea and Japan) and Lithuania

What birthday traditions do you follow? Regarding food, music, presents, etc.

  1. probably presents.. i try to give to people what other people normally give to each other
  2. We have a cake, music we use can be the most traditional happy birthday song, or Japanese not-so-traditional song (for example "Happy Birthday" from DREAMS COME TRUE. ) Food can be anything. Not Sushi usually haha Presents are given to the person from each one who attends to the party. But you can give a group-present as well, which is likely to be more expensive.
  3. It's very traditional way in Korea. My mother always sets the table for the god on family member's birth. The god is kind of myth, there is grandmother god who gives new life(hard to explain in ENG).
  4. Having food and birthday cake.
  5. Blowing birthday cake candles, making a wish, singing happy birthday songs, playing drinking party games. Oh, and you have to eat seaweed soup on your birthday.
  6. Maybe food... in terms of eating cakes. And we usually sing birthday song, not in Japanese, but in English
  7. Eating a cake with strawberry. and turn off the rights and singing song when we show the cake to the person who got a birthday.
  8. I think Japanese birthday celbration style is similar to the US one. We usually eat birthday cake and then give a present. BUT I usually eat sushi in my family when celebrate someone's birthday.
